To The Point The Point, as most residents affectionately call it. Cypremort Point is located in south central Louisiana with New Orleans approximately 150 miles to the east and Lafayette about 50 miles north. The Point extends out to divide Vermilion Bay to the west and West Cote Blanche Bay to the east and East Cote Blanche Bay east of there. Marsh Island a wild life reserve is 5 miles to the south. The Gulf of Mexico is just a ten mile boat ride away through Southwest Pass. Cypremort Point has a state park of approximately 185 acres. A public boat ramp, a half-mile stretch of manmade beach with picnic tables under pavilions. The State Park offers a pier to fish from and a bathhouse. Between Grand Isle and Cameron, Cypremort Point is the only locality near the Gulf of Mexico that can be reached by car according to the Louisiana State web site. Cabin rentals are also available and you can search at http://www.crt.state.la.us/parks/icyprempt.aspx. There is fishing of all sorts around the Cypremort Point area, including shrimp, crab, oyster, crawfish (mudbugs), and sport fishing. Redfish and speckled trout are the most popular. |
