I really liked your plans, and made a smaller version that I can roll around on the patio. I used a large water pressure tank for the main tank, and a smaller propane tank for the fire box. The one thing that I had to add was a fire diverter plate that knocks down any flame that comes into the fire box. I angled it down a little and it extends into the main tank about six inches. That area still a little hotter than the rest of the area. I just cooke around it. Thanks agin for the plans. And yes the ribs are good.

I'm in East Texas and already started a smoker out of a big Waterpump storage tank.I found lots of great ideas in your plans I will incorperate in my new unit.I am building mine on an old CarDolly its wide enough to turn the tank to set over the axle and I don't have to straddle a tire to work on what I'm cooking. I'm mounting fish fryers on the front where Ive got extra room.Hope to mount my generator on there also.......Thanks

Central,Louisiana. I love you design. I'm considering doing something similar. I would suggest one change by relocating the outlet for the smokestacks lower on the back side, closer to the midline of the tank to encourage the smoke to stay a while before it litteraly goes up in smoke. How do the doors handle? Do they need a counter weight?

well your smoker is cool and can do alot of cooking,,i started eating smoked food back in 1967 as a kid and freinds walked in a old black mans bar just for fun and it had this smell about the place,,we where scared as this black man said come here kids try this,,so we walk up to this window in the back and he hands use this food we have never seen before,,we ate it and i was hooked and so was my freinds to this day,,we all eat smoked food if we dont have a grill we cook on open fire,,tothis day no one can cook ribs like mr.lewis or his sauce that 1000s have tried!! in 1998 lewis the black man pasted away and i was still buying his food as a 39 year old man! the locals still argue about mr.lewis sauce after 40+ years.. if it is done right you will never for get the taste!! i my self am still trying to catch the taste of lewis bbq ,,have came very close but it is not the same,,the black man had the best in the world to me and i have ate alot of bbq that some one says it is the best you will ever eat and it sucked bad!!so ask your self have you realy ate some deep south bbq!! my point is dont pass up the old black guy with a home made smoker on side of the road if your in the south because you mite taste it for weeks and wont more and cant get it..smoking is a art of cooking for it to be the best there are tricks one is 12-18 hrs on the smoker any thing less it is not done wright we call that fast smoked,,i started smoking in 1976 in trash can sitting on blocks lol but true and it worked!!!keep smoking and pass it down with the kids it is a true art,,sorry can not give away me tips but a true south sauce is a mustard base sweet or hot home made sauce,, ribs covered in pickles and cooked on smoker the last 3hrs till pickles are very soft,,do this dry or in sauce

I live in northern Alberta and we don't have even have the type of wood it takes for a smoker in this part of the country but I love eating BBQ in the States when I visit, so I thought I would take a look at the plans to build one and see if it would work here. We have already built a BBQ out of 2 big propane tanks and put it on a tent trailer so we have built something simular to this already but are unsure of the smoker part of the project. Thank You for your help.

I have to borrow smoker grills to accomodate all the food! I have 30 years in sheetmetal trade si I thought just maybe with some plans I can make my own. Thank you and feel free to contact any time.
