Poetry, Lyrics or Songs
 Poetry is a form of art that has been around since before there was a written language. Poetry has been used as a way to remember history, genealogy, wars, religion, politics, fictional stories, and even the alphabet. I was taught in school about Columbus with a poem that said he sailed the ocean blue in 1492. The poem of Gilgamesh is thought to be one of the oldest existing poems, from around the 4th millennium BC in what is now modern-day Iraq. The Song of Solomon in the bible is a poem that is meant to exalt love between a husband and wife. Song lyrics are poems that came along when the written language was developed. Somewhere around the seventh century, the word lyrics from the Greek word lura or lyre are the instrument the performers used to sing their poems (lyrics) or songs. In today’s world of electronic media there has been an increase of reading poetry and a revival of performing lyrics.
